Sweeney Preston
All the goss.
Raised in Melbourne’s west, 27-year-old Sweeney Preston has delighted crowds in the UK, Japan, USA, Canada, Germany, Indonesia, Ireland, New Zealand and across Australia with his signature blend of cheek and charm.
After nearly 3 years working as a journalist in youth media, Sweeney now works full time as a comedian, performing stand-up across the world, writing jokes for TV (including on Australia’s beloved music quiz show Spicks and Specks), producing and hosting line-up shows, and writing marketing collateral for fellow comedians and arts organisations.
Passionate about bringing fresh and innovative comedy experiences to audiences, Sweeney is one of the creators and co-hosts behind cult-classic shows such as The Late Nite PowerPoint Comedy Showcase — a line-up hour where professional comedians perform their own slideshows, and In Pour Taste: A Comedy Wine Tasting Experience where wines are included in the ticket price and chaos promptly ensues.
When he’s not clicking through PowerPoints or mixing business with pleasure at a wine show, he has had the pleasure of performing “regular stand-up” at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s iconic Festival Club, Comedy Republic’s Saturday night Main Stage, and the Good Times Comedy Club’s Pro Night in Christchurch NZ.
During his time at university he was also a cast member of the infamous Melbourne University Law Revue — a sketch show whose alumni includes Cate Blanchett, Magda Szubanski, Sammy J and Celia Pacquola.
Sweeney holds a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and a Diploma in Languages in Spanish and Latin American studies from the University of Melbourne. Apparently.
Sweeney’s debut solo stand-up hour Culture Reporter (A Story of Breaking News & Broken Hearts) is touring in 2025.
He is available for hire as an MC, presenter, writer, talking head or a combination of them all.
